Edo Guber: Tinubu congratulates governor-elect, Okpebholo

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Saturday’s Edo State governorship election, on his victory at the polls.

Senator Okpebholo was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday, having defeated other contenders for the position.

The President through a statement by Bayo Onanuga, his media aide, commended APC national leaders, Edo State leaders, and party governors for working hard to achieve the victory.

He said the victory testified to the people’s support for the ruling party, its progressive ideals, its economic re-engineering programme and its commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians.

He urged Senator Okpebholo not to gloat over his victory but to see it as a challenging call to service.

He encouraged him to demonstrate magnanimity by reaching out to his political rivals and uniting the people of Edo State to ensure its development.

President Tinubu also praised other candidates who participated in the election for their contributions to advancing Nigeria’s democracy, saying peaceful political contests, such as the one on Saturday, portray Nigeria as a stable democracy.

The President urged all those aggrieved by the election outcome to seek redress through the legal channels.

According to Onanuga, the President commended the people of Edo State for their orderly and peaceful conduct during the election, underscoring the maturing of Nigeria’s democracy after 25 years.

“I commend the INEC and our security agencies for working round the clock to conduct a successful, peaceful and largely hitch-free exercise.

“INEC has once again demonstrated that it is committed to organising a free and fair election in our country”, the President said.

Edo Guber: APC thugs plotting to attack collation center, change results – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress, APC, is planning to use its armed thugs to violently attack the collation center for the ongoing governorship election in Edo State to manipulate results.

A statement on Saturday night by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Hon. Debo Ologunagba claimed that the APC is mounting pressure on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) to suspend the collation process.

According to PDP, the move was to “make way for the manipulation of the INEC Portal and replace the real results from the Units with fabricated figures in favour of the APC.

“Our Party has also been made aware that the APC is mounting pressure on the Military to withdraw from their positions so as to enable the APC to convey its armed thugs to disrupt and manipulate the collation process.”

“The PDP in very strong terms cautions INEC and the APC to note that the people of Edo State already have authentic results from the Polling Units across the State and that any attempt by anybody or group whatsoever to alter the results will inflame the already charged situation with very severe consequences on perpetrators,” the party said

The development was made known through a press release made available by the Secretary to the council and Registrar of the institution, Acho Elendu.

The Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation and the Abia State office of the Federal Information Centre had early this week held sensitization campaigns in Umuahia, calling on Abia people to take advantage of the Federal government’s intervention programs.

Meanwhile the management of ABSU has thanked Governor Alex Otti for restoration of security around the University, regular payment of staff salary, as well as the commencement of payment of 11 months salary arrears to staff, among others.

Diddy placed on suicide watch in prison

Embattled American rapper Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been placed on suicide watch at the Metropolitan Detention Centre in New York.

Diddy was reportedly placed on suicide watch for preventative measures.

DAILY POST reports that the 54-year-old who was arrested on Monday is currently facing federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges.

On Tuesday, Robyn Tarnofsky, the US magistrate judge, ordered that Diddy be sent to jail to await trial.

However, on Friday, Diddy’s attorney, Marc Agnifilo, told TMZ that the suicide watch directive by MDC officials was merely a routine measure for “new, high-profile inmates.”

Agnifilo, who noted that he spent six hours with Diddy at the federal lockup on Thursday, said of the rapper: “[He’s] not at all suicidal. He was healthy, strong, confident and focused on his defense.”

The report did not reveal how long Diddy will remain under suicide watch.

”I didn’t come to look for money and exploit the situation; I came to work.

APP vows to appeal court judgement on decamped 27 Rivers lawmakers

APP vows to appeal court judgement on decamped 27 Rivers lawmakers

The Action Peoples Party, APP, has vowed to appeal the judgement of the Federal High Court declaring the decampment of 27 sacked Rivers State lawmakers as a pre-election issue.

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday dismissed a defection suit instituted by APP against the 27 former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The party, in a statement by its national chairman, Uche Nnadi, rejected the ruling, insisting that the former lawmakers remain sacked until a higher court rules otherwise.

He stated that the court ruling is against the constitution, noting that if the court says that the matter is a pre-election issue, then how can someone who’s yet to win an election be a legislator and as well defect?

Nnadi added that the party is already filing an appeal and that Oko Jumbo remains the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

He said: “So decampment is now a pre-election matter? That’s not what the Constitution says.

“The pending cases in that federal high court before Justice Omotosho were on trying to stop the National Assembly from taking over the functions of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

“No court has declared that the illegal decampment of the sacked lawmakers is valid. They can’t come through the back door. The matter is being appealed. And going by subsisting judgements of the courts, Oko Jumbo remains speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.”

PDP crisis: You can’t suspend breeze, Damagun is party’s problem – Dino Melaye

Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, on Saturday said a breeze cannot be suspended.

Reacting to his suspension by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in his Ward, Melaye accused Acting Chairman of the party, Illiya Damagun of being the party’s problem.

The PDP Excos in Ayetoro Gbede, Ward 1 had suspended Melaye for anti-party activities and alleged misconducts.

The exco said the former lawmaker was suspended following his refusal to honour a summon.

The resolution to suspend the former Kogi West senator was taken by the Ward party executive committee during a meeting in Aiyetoro/Luagba Ward 1 on Friday.

This was after a review of the report of the disciplinary committee set up to investigate alleged anti-party activities against Melaye.

The resolution was signed by the Ward Chairman, Abayomi Osamika and Ward Yodson Dayo, Secretary.

However, in a video posted on X, Melaye said: “You can’t suspend breeze, Damagun is the source of PDP problems. His belly is his God.”

Premier League Title Race Heats Up: David Luiz Tips Arsenal and Liverpool to Challenge Manchester City:

The Premier League title race is set to intensify this season, with former Chelsea defender David Luiz predicting a strong challenge from Arsenal and Liverpool against reigning champions Manchester City.

*Luiz's Expert Analysis*

According to Luiz, Arsenal and Liverpool have the momentum to take on Manchester City, who have dominated the league with four consecutive title wins. "Arsenal is the club today that is closest, along with Liverpool perhaps, to challenging City," Luiz stated via Copa City Studio.

*Why Other Clubs Are Out of Contention*

Luiz believes other top clubs are currently in transition, rebuilding and regrouping to compete for titles in the future. This, he says, leaves Arsenal and Liverpool as the primary challengers to Manchester City's throne.

*Arsenal's Recent Form*

Luiz's prediction is backed by Arsenal's impressive performance in the last two seasons, where they finished as runners-up to Manchester City. The Gunners' consistency under Mikel Arteta has made them a legitimate contender to dethrone City.

*The Stage is Set*

With Luiz's endorsement, the stage is set for an electrifying Premier League title race. Will Arsenal or Liverpool finally break Manchester City's dominance, or will Pep Guardiola's side secure their fifth consecutive title?

Edo guber: Francis Alimikhen, Ogbeide-Ihama formally dump PDP for APC

A week to the September 21, 2024, governorship election in Edo State, Senator Francis Alimikhena and Hon Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama have formally dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

INSTANT NEWS reports that the duo were in the 8th and 9th National Assembly, respectively.

Alimikhena is the immediate past senator representing Edo North Senatorial District, while Ogbeide-Ihama is also the immediate past representative of Oredo Federal Constituency.

The duo were both received into the party by the National Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Speaking, Senator Francis Alimikhena, who said he was glad to be back in the APC, assured that he would mobilize his followers to vote for the party in the governorship election.

On his part, Ogbeide-Ihama said he had earlier advised his former party, the PDP, against its decision when it brought in Governor Godwin Obaseki in 2020, but they didn’t listen to him.

“In 2020, I advised the PDP against impunity when they brought in Governor Godwin Obaseki through the back door. In 2024, Governor Godwin Obaseki, who came through the back door, went to Lagos to bring Asue Ighodalo through the same back door.

“The man only joined the party in September last year. That impunity must stop.

“All those who supported the impunity, the National Working Committee, they should come with their Voter Cards on Saturday, while those who didn’t face their states and said that the governor must produce his successor should also come on Saturday.

“The governor and I are from the same local government. The results will tell. We did that to him in 2020; we will do it again for Monday Okpebholo in 2024,” he said.

INSTANT NEWS recalls that Francis Alimikhena contested the senate seat with Senator Adams Oshiomhole on the platform of the PDP.

INSTANT NEWS also recalls that President Ahmed Bola Tinubu had, on August 19, 2024, appointed Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama as the new Executive Director (Strategy & Commercial) of Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC)

John Mikel Obi Reveals Gustavo Poyet's Interest in Super Eagles Coaching Role

Former Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, has disclosed that ex-Chelsea defender, Gustavo Poyet, has expressed interest in the vacant Super Eagles coaching position. Poyet inquired about the role, seeking Mikel's insight into managing the Nigerian national team.

Mikel's Candid Advice

Mikel shared his honest opinion with Poyet, describing the challenges of managing the Super Eagles. He emphasized the need for patience, as progress may be slower than expected. Despite the difficulties, Mikel assured Poyet that progress can be made with persistence.

Poyet's Keen Interest

Poyet's inquiry suggests a genuine interest in managing the three-time African champions. With the Nigerian national team still without a permanent coach since Finidi George's departure, Poyet may be a potential candidate for the role. Augustine Eguavoen, Nigeria Football Federation's Technical Director, has been overseeing the team in the interim.

Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher Predict North London Derby Draw

Sky Sports analysts Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have made identical predictions for the highly anticipated Premier League clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal this Sunday. Both experts believe the first North London Derby of the season will end in a stalemate.

Carragher's Analysis

Carragher expects Tottenham to dominate the game, but Arsenal's robust defense will ensure they secure a point. He predicts a 1-1 draw, citing Arsenal's defensive solidity as the key factor.

Neville's Insight

Neville shares a similar view, highlighting the impact of Arsenal's absent midfield duo, Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard. He believes their absence will significantly harm Arsenal's chances, given their importance to the team. Despite this, Neville still expects Arsenal to hold on for a draw.

A Closely Contested Derby

The predictions from Neville and Carragher suggest a tightly contested North London Derby, with both teams likely to cancel each other out. The absence of key players for Arsenal and Tottenham's home advantage will make for an intriguing encounter.

Mikel Arteta Eyes Two Key Signings After New Contract

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has already set his sights on two key players to bolster his squad after committing to a new three-year contract with the Premier League club. Despite finishing second in the league for two consecutive seasons, Arteta is determined to bridge the gap with Manchester City.

Arteta's Transfer Plans

This summer, Arteta invested £92million in five signings, including a loan deal for Raheem Sterling. However, the lack of a new center-forward left some fans disappointed. According to The Times, Arteta plans to address this by signing a unique attacking player in the next two transfer windows. This could lead to a renewed interest in striker Benjamin Sesko, who opted to stay with RB Leipzig despite significant transfer interest.

Targeting Attacking Talent

Arteta is also eyeing Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams and Bayern Munich attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala. These signings would add firepower to Arsenal's attack and provide the creativity needed to challenge Manchester City.

Defensive Midfielder on the Radar

In addition to attacking talent, Arteta is keen on signing a "young defensive midfielder". This move would strengthen Arsenal's midfield and provide a solid foundation for the team's future success. With Arteta's clear vision and transfer strategy, Arsenal fans can expect exciting developments in the coming transfer windows.
