In a shocking turn of events, a five-storey building located in GRA Apapa, Lagos has collapsed. This unfortunate incident comes barely 24 hours after the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, ordered the demolition of some buildings within Banana Island due to infractions.
This is not the first building collapse to occur in Lagos in recent times. Just two weeks prior, a seven-storey building on Banana Island caved in, resulting in the death of one worker and leaving several others with injuries.
The five-storey building that collapsed in GRA Apapa was still under construction at the time of the incident. It is reported that the collapse was caused by a thunder strike that hit the building, causing it to crumble down like a pack of cards.
This is a tragic event that highlights the need for proper construction and safety measures to be put in place in Nigeria. It is important that authorities and construction companies take adequate steps to ensure that incidents like this do not occur in the future. Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by this terrible tragedy. We will provide more details as they become available.
