In a significant development, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has graciously accepted an invitation for a meeting with United States President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the upcoming United Nations General Assembly meeting. The disclosure was made by Aguri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, in a statement issued on Saturday following a discussion between President Tinubu and Ambassador Molly Phee, the US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs.
President Tinubu reiterated his commitment to fostering a conducive environment for private businesses to thrive in Nigeria. He seized the opportunity to call upon the US government to adopt innovative strategies that would incentivize substantial American investment in Nigeria.
"In the pursuit of economic growth, the private sector will undoubtedly play a pivotal role. To facilitate this, Nigeria is actively working to establish a favorable environment for private enterprises. Yet, the US government can play a pivotal role by introducing creative incentives to encourage substantial American industrial investments in our nation," President Tinubu stated firmly.
He further added, "Under my leadership, Nigeria is fully prepared to address specific concerns related to regulations, taxation, and the environment. My foremost determination is to usher in prosperity for all Nigerian families."
Ambassador Molly Phee, reflecting the US government's commitment, affirmed the intent to enhance incentives for significant American investment within Nigeria. She conveyed, "President Joe Biden's desire to engage with you during UNGA is a clear indication of the high esteem in which he holds your leadership."
The upcoming 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, scheduled to commence on September 12, 2023, in New York, serves as an opportune platform for these influential leaders to engage in productive discussions and explore avenues for bilateral cooperation. This forthcoming meeting holds the potential to catalyze positive strides in economic collaboration between Nigeria and the United States, bringing forth a new era of mutual growth and prosperity.
