The Benue State Government has taken a proactive step to prepare for the impending 2024 flood by distributing life jackets to ferry operators and passengers at the River Buruku jetty in Buruku Local Government Area. This move is aimed at preventing loss of life during the flood.
Governor Hyacinth Alia, represented by James Iorpuu, acting executive secretary of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), urged the people of Buruku to make judicious use of the life jackets. Iorpuu emphasized the importance of using the jackets wisely to avoid accidents while crossing the river during the flood.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) had earlier warned Benue State of the impending flood, prompting BSEMA to take swift action to mitigate the potential disaster. By distributing life jackets, the government is taking a crucial step towards ensuring the safety of lives and property in the affected area.
