Nnamdi Azikiwe University Governing Council Removes Acting VC, Appoints New One

The Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has appointed Professor Carol Umobi as the new Acting Vice Chancellor, effective Monday, July 22, 2024. This decision was made during the Council's meeting on Saturday, resulting in the removal of Professor Joe Ikechebelu from the position. Ikechebelu had been serving as Acting Vice Chancellor for about two months, following the departure of Professor Charles Esimone. A letter signed by Ambassador Greg Mbadiwe, Chairman of the Governing Council, congratulated Umobi on her appointment. The letter stated that the appointment is for a period not exceeding six months, in accordance with the university's act and federal government regulations. The reason for Ikechebelu's removal was not disclosed. The Council expressed confidence in Umobi's ability to lead the institution during this period and wished her success in her new role.
