Tinubu to Inaugurate 63rd Annual General Conference of Nigeria Bar Association

Tinubu to open 63rd NBA Conference in Abuja

Anticipation is high as President Bola Tinubu is set to inaugurate the 63rd Annual General Conference of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) in Abuja over the upcoming weekend.

The decision to have President Tinubu open the prestigious event comes in response to an invitation extended by the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), spearheaded by Barrister Yakubu Maikyau, SAN.

The honor of hosting the NBA delegation at the Presidential Villa was observed on Friday. During this meeting, President Tinubu made a significant commitment: his administration will embark on a comprehensive review of the remuneration structures for judicial officers across the nation. The President emphasized that the fight against corruption demands a thorough evaluation of the salaries and allowances allocated to judicial officers. This endeavor is of personal significance to President Tinubu, given his impactful role in overhauling the justice administration system in Lagos State.

In response to a request made by the NBA president, President Tinubu stated, "We must address the issue of remuneration if we are genuinely dedicated to combating corruption within the Judiciary. Our assessment will encompass not only the cost implications but also the far-reaching consequences."

Moreover, President Tinubu recognized the critical need to address the existing vacancies within the Supreme Court. He underlined that these vacancies present responsibilities that must be fulfilled, echoing recommendations put forward by the National Judicial Council (NJC).

"Considering the majority of them are presently on vacation, upon their return, we will delve into their recommendations and proceed to fill these vacancies. It is a commitment we hold to fulfill," President Tinubu affirmed.

Expressing his gratitude for the privilege, President Tinubu acknowledged the invaluable contributions of numerous lawyers within his inner circle. He pointed to individuals such as Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff, Victor Adeleke, the State Chief of Protocol, and Prince Damilotun Aderemi, his Principal Private Secretary, all of whom bring legal expertise to his team.

The NBA President took a moment to applaud President Tinubu for his choice in appointing distinguished legal minds to his cabinet. Notably, he acknowledged Lateef Fagbemi, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, as an exemplary addition from the legal fraternity. The convergence of legal expertise within the government reflects a commitment to informed decision-making and the strengthening of the nation's legal foundation.
