Soludo issues certificates of recognition to Anambra monarchs

 

In a significant move to uphold the legitimacy of traditional leadership, Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has awarded certificates of recognition to four esteemed traditional rulers within the state. The formal ceremony took place on a recent Saturday in an intimate setting at the government house in Awka.

During this event, Governor Soludo drew attention to the concerning issue of unauthorized individuals assuming the roles of traditional rulers across various communities. He emphasized that such actions would no longer go unchecked. Going forward, those who engage in such impersonation will be subject to a six-month imprisonment.

The announcement was accompanied by an official statement from the governor's press secretary, Mr. Christian Aburime. The statement disclosed the names of the honored traditional rulers who received their certificates: Igwe Mkpuorah Ngini of Isuaniocha in Awka North Local Government Area, Eze Augustine Nwangwu of Ajali in Orumba North Local Government, Igwe Alexander Azike of Igbo-ukwu, and Igwe Ikechukwu Ezeofor of Umuona, both in Aguata Local Government Area.

Governor Soludo emphasized that these traditional rulers had been elected by their respective communities following the guidelines set forth in their constitutional frameworks. The governor reaffirmed the state's commitment to abiding by the traditional rulers law and ensuring that the voices of the people were honored through proper democratic processes.

The governor expressed his concern over the prevalence of caretaker committees in many communities across Anambra State, which had previously caused disruptions in the well-being of the populace. To rectify this, his administration had facilitated over 110 elections using the option A4 system, strengthening the democratic foundation of the state.

Governor Soludo concluded his address by reiterating the legal consequences for anyone who falsely portrayed themselves as a traditional ruler without the state's endorsement. The strict implementation of the law would see these individuals facing a six-month jail term. This proactive stance by Governor Soludo is poised to restore the integrity of traditional leadership while upholding the principles of justice and legality in Anambra State.
