25-year-old unveils first Nigerian made carbon fiber sports car

Fabrication engineer and chief executive officer of Bennie Technologies LTD, Jerry Mallo, has unveiled the first made in Nigeria carbon fibre sports car.

The carbon fibre car named Bennie Purrie was exhibited on Thursday at Transcorp Hilton in Abuja.

“ Africa is a good market for luxury vehicles,” Mallo said on ChannelsTV Sunrise Daily on Friday.

“I got that exposure when I was in the UK in Europe, we learnt that making the car is just half of the challenge, and selling it is the other half.”

“Africa is usually is the target place to sell these vehicles, so I feel there’s a big market for it here.”

The 25-year-old, who hailed from Bokkos, Jos, Plateau State said he discovered his passion for cars at the age of five when he was in primary 2.

He said while in school he found it difficult to comprehend the theoretical aspect of his courses but did well in his practical classes.

“We have a lot of hand skilled individuals in Nigeria and they are lying wasted if you would allow me to say it, it is like the theoretical aspect is what is valued more and I am poor at the theoretical so I saw it as a challenge why don’t I do something practically-inclined and will also be platform for others to put their mind and we’ll make a living out of it,” Mallo said.

The Plateau State-born engineer said he was inspired to create the sports car because Nigeria and Africa at large have all the required resources and raw materials needed.

Mallo further stated that the car was made with fibres that have characteristics of glass totally different from the normal cars in Nigeria made with aluminium.

He said instead of victims getting crushed while in an accident, the car would break into pieces and the victims are protected with airbags.

The car manufacturer said the car has four radiators for Nigeria’s temperature and rugged for the country’s road.

Mallo said the car is not ready for purchase yet as it is more like research but will be ready for commercialisation in two years.

On the 2nd of August 2018, Mallo emerged as the overall winner of the Micro Small Medium Enterprise award.

Mallo specialises in the fabrication of agricultural machines including a tractor which earned him the national award as MSME of the year.

He was presented with a car and N1 million by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as the MSME Awards grand winner of the year and given the scholarship to study in any university around the world.

EFCC drops corruption charges against Diezani, others

EFCC drops corruption charges against Diezani, others

If a report by Daily Trust is anything to go by, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has dropped all 14 count charges against former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.
The EFCC was also said to have dropped the charges against Ben Otti, Nnamdi Okonkwo, Stanley Lawson, Lanre Adesanya, and Dauda Lawal, all of whom are former officials of commercial banks and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Since 2015, Diezani has been dogged by a series of corruption allegations, including the alleged diversion and distribution of N23 billion.

The former minister has also been holed up in the United Kingdom where she also faces a separate probe for alleged bribery, corruption, and money laundering.

From then till date, the EFCC has obtained court rulings that have ordered the forfeiture of properties and funds linked to the former minister.

At the resumed hearing of the matter before Justice Muslim Hassan of a Federal High Court Lagos on November 5, 2019, the anti-graft agency, through its lawyer, Rotimi Oyedepo, dropped the corruption charges against most of the accused persons, including Diezani, through an amended four-count charge.

The amended charges, which border on money laundering, now only seeks to prosecute Lawal, a former Executive Director of First Bank Plc, alongside Diezani and Otti, who served as Group Executive Director of Finance at the NNPC.

Diezani and Otti have both reportedly been at large since the beginning of the matter which was first filed in court on November 28, 2018.

Similarly, Nnamdi, Stanley, and Lanre, all did not make any appearance in court and have not been arraigned.

In what appeared like a twist at the resumed hearing of the matter, a source close to Lawal, who noted that the former Executive Director of First Bank did not fail to appear in court in all adjourned dates of the matter, was shocked that all other accused persons have been exonerated.

In a statement later released by the EFCC following reactions to this story, the anti-graft agency said it took a prosecutorial decision to split the initial 14-count charges to enable separate arraignment of the defendants.

This, the agency said, was necessary because of a spate of adjournments that prevented the arraignment of the defendants more than one year after the case was listed.

"It was clear that these recurring excuses were ploys to frustrate the arraignment. To get around this, the Commission took a deliberate decision, which was disclosed in open court, to separately prosecute the defendants in different courts," the agency's spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, said.

The EFCC also noted that the non-inclusion of other defendants in the original charge in the amended four-count charges does not mean that they have been exonerated of any criminal allegation.

The EFCC had in the 14 count-charge accused the bank executives and the NNPC officials of conspiring to conceal $153 million in Fidelity bank, which they ought to have known were proceeds of corruption punishable under the Money Laundering Act.

In 2015, the EFCC discovered that the $153 million was deposited, to allegedly fund the presidential second term campaign of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The matter was investigated by the EFCC and the bankers were alleged to have conspired with Diezani and other NNPC officials to conceal and distribute parts of the fund.

Lawal was accused of assisting Diezani to purchase a property, Merdien Hotel Ogeyi Palace in Port Harcourt, when he received $25 million from Fidelity Bank and deposited the same amount with Sterling Bank, allegedly on the instruction of Stanley.

Zenith, GTBank, Access Bank, FBN, 16 others disburse CBN’s N610.4 billion to farmers

Zenith Bank Plc,  GTBank Plc, Access Bank, First Bank of Nigeria, Citibank Plc and 15 others have disbursed N610.4 billion for 593 projects in the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Commercial Agriculture Credit Scheme (CACS), CBN’s third quarter (Q3) 2019 economic report revealed.

According to the report, while Zenith Bank disbursed N123.91 billion, UBA Plc released N83.53 billion, followed by Sterling Bank Plc, which gave N72.43 billion. FBN (N52.99billion), GTBank (N39.85 billion), Keystone (N30.05 billion), Unity Bank (N29.80 billion), Union Bank Plc (N28.96 billion) and Fidelity Bank (N23.67 billion), among others.
The fund is made available to participating banks to finance commercial agricultural enterprises at a maximum interest rate of 9%.

In addition, each State Government could borrow up to N1.0 Billion for on-lending to farmers’ cooperative societies and other areas of agricultural development provided such initiatives/interventions are in line with the objectives of CACS.
Highlights of the scheme
It has empowered over 1 million people across rural communities as over N600 billion for 593 projects has been disbursed since inception in 2009
At end-September 2019, the total amount repaid since inception stood at N368.0 billion at end-June 2019.

In the third quarter of 2019, agricultural activities intensified, due, largely, to increased rainfall experienced in most parts of the country.
Farming activities were centred majorly on the harvest of agricultural produce during the quarter.
In a bid to curb the farmers/herders clash and ensure a well-integrated meat/dairy industry, a pilot phase of the Livestock Transformation Plan was flagged off in Adamawa, Benue, Kaduna, Plateau, Nasarawa, Taraba and Zamfara states.
The Plan was targeted at supporting the development of the country’s livestock sub-sector.
The report also disclosed that a total of N1.214billion loan was guaranteed to 9,752 farmers under the Agricultural Credit Guarantee Scheme (ACGS) by the end of Q3 2019. This represented an increase of 41.7% above the level in the preceding quarter but was 14.6% below the level in the corresponding quarter of 2018.
The sub-sectorial analysis showed that food crops received the largest share of N595.5 million (49%) guaranteed to 5,436 beneficiaries
Mixed crops got N221.8 million (18.3%) guaranteed to 2,472 beneficiaries
Livestock had N174.5 million (14.4%) guaranteed to 690 beneficiaries
Cash crops, fisheries and ‘Others’ got N106.5 million (8.8%), N84.4 million (6.9%) and N31.5 million (2.6%), guaranteed to 629, 321 and 204 beneficiaries, respectively.
Analysis by state showed that 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory benefited from the Scheme in the review quarter, with the highest and lowest sums of N142.9 million (11.8%) and N2.6 million (0.2%) guaranteed to Adamawa and Jigawa states, respectively.

The closure of the country’s land borders is contributing to rising inflation says Federal Government.

The headline inflation stood at 11.61 per cent as of October according to recent figures from the Nigeria Bureau of Statistics.

Mrs Zainab Ahmed, the Minister of Finance/Budget /National Planning,  explained to the State House Correspondents that inflation rose due to hikes in food prices arising from border closure.
She was responding to questions after the Federal Executive Council in Abuja.

However, she stated that the closure of the borders was a temporary measure adopted by the government to protect the economy against trade malpractices by neighbouring countries.

“We are still discussing with our neighbours to ensure that we all respect our trade protocols, especially now that the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement is coming into effect.”

The FEC meeting was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

4TH Industrial Revolution: Nigeria must upkill to compete.

4TH Industrial Revolution: Nigeria must upkill to compete.

Nigeria must up-skill to compete successfully in the 4th industrial revolution. This is because the Nigerian labour market is currently seen to have such enormous size but the talents requisite skills needed in the modern-day workplace may be missing.

With a workforce of about 85 million people, Nigeria has been described by information communication, IT, experts as a haven for talents but also home to the distended labour market

However, up-skilling may not be properly entrenched in an analog-based system without government, policymakers, industries, and individuals, making investments.
How to make effective investments that would result in appreciable skill level for the boundless talents in Nigeria, was the thrust of a round table discussion organized by global provider of business and IT support services, Tek Experts Nigeria recently.

The event which happened in Lagos, saw key IT and human resource experts, Human Resources, HR experts and other professionals discussing the future of work, examining the challenges and as well proffering effective solutions.

The forum, with the theme: ‘Preparing for the Future of Work’, also analyzed Nigeria’s preparedness for the Future of Work and touched on several areas including what changes are necessary for the workplace, and the nature of work itself.
Country Manager, Tek Experts Nigeria, Lars Johannisson, said the Future of Work is here and Nigeria must take urgent action at all levels to ensure its workforce always has the right skills and the ability to adapt in real-time and also succeed in the direction that work is going. Johannisson explained that with a workforce of 85 million people, Nigeria is home to an enormous labour market and this talent must be upskilled and honed in order to compete successfully in the 4th Industrial Revolution. He said: “Work as we know it is currently being disrupted and the advent of artificial intelligence, AI, and many technological innovations has changed the way we work. “At Tek Experts, we recognize that this is the direction the world is taking thus the need for adequate preparations to be made.”
“We currently hire over 1,000 young IT talent which makes us one of the largest and fastest-growing IT companies in Nigeria.

Therefore, we have a massive responsibility as a business to train our staff and we recognize the need to upskill our talent, reinvigorate their work experiences and training so they cannot only deliver top-notch customer experiences but also operate optimally in the place of work”.

Uproar on Social Media as Pepsi Nigeria's MD Email reveals Hate Speech.

A leaked e-mail, seen to be sent to Pepsi’s Heads of Depot across the country by the  Managing Director of PEPSI, Ziad Maalouf, stating his determination to stop at nothing, to crush the dreams of Nigerians, has begun raising questions, and generating controversy on Twitter, Instagram, and other Social media platforms.

According to him, it's his intention to engage in battle with the indigenous brands like Bigi, the Nigerian dream, and other competitive brands.

See excerpts from the leaked mail, and other fiery speech:

“After our sales workshop day (Friday, November 1) and finance workshop day (Saturday), I decided to test our system in terms of readiness to go for WAR!!!.”

“…it is extremely obvious to me that we are not yet ready for war BY ANY MEANS…”

“Let me start by explaining the competitive playground once again. This season is not like any other, so the mindset of growing vs last year, achieving budget, business as usual cost management, WILL NOT WORK!!! The outcome of this season must write the future and destiny of the 3 major competitors, along with the future of B-Brand industry (Bigger pack and lower price concept) disruptions in Nigeria. ”

“One company will flourish. One company will diminish. One company will finish. B-Brand disruptive business model will either become a temptation for anyone who has a bit of money to start own brand in Nigeria, or it will be a curse that ensures no one takes such a decision again!!!”

Like a distressed Nigerian said, “How can you come to our country, Make money out of us, Sell us substandard drinks and still have the effrontery to declare war on indigenous brands like Bigi??”

Femi Gbajabiamila speaks to media - Your role more important than govt’s.

The role of the media is sometimes more important than that of government, said the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Femi, who was represented by the lawmaker representing Bende federal constituency of Abia State, Benjamin Kalu, said the media remains the fourth arm of government and must live up to its responsibilities.

He said, “The 9th House of Representatives under my leadership sees the media as more than a mere source of news but as an instrument of unity, peace and national development. We consider the media to be the 4th arm of government with a critical role to play that can even be more important than that of those in government.

“But while we do so, we all must also take responsibility to ensure that the media is not used to perpetuate pessimistic truths but reinforce positive narratives.”

“This is why we started this in Section 2.14 of our legislative agenda. We will partner the media in our joint task for nation-building. We will ensure that freedom of information is strengthened and the media is not gagged.

PDP Instructs INEC Not To Allow Melaye Return To Senate

The appeal court had annulled the February election of Melaye and ordered a fresh one which held on November 16, an exercise that was declared inconclusive while a supplementary poll fixed for November 30.
Kola Ologbondiyan, spokesman of the PDP, while speaking on Saturday expressed worry that INEC might not conduct a free and fair election.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that both security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have been instructed not to allow Dino Melaye to return to the senate.
“There is indeed nothing to indicate that more people will not be massacred in the proposed Kogi West Senatorial re-run election. It is therefore doubtful if Nigerians will be prepared to participate in that re-run given their sordid experiences in the last election.

“There is already a growing consensus across the nation that participating in elections by INEC as presently constituted under the Buhari Presidency would amount to helping to legitimize illegitimacies and outright criminalities.

“Moreover, there are reports in the public space that the APC-controlled Federal Government does not want Senator Dino Melaye in the Senate just because of his forthrightness in defending the interest of the people.

“Nigerians recall with shock how, at the presentation of the 2020 budget, Mr. President reportedly asked Senator Melaye ‘you, you mean you are still in this chamber?’. A question which meaning cannot be far-fetched.

“Our party has been made aware of how INEC and security apparatus have been instructed to use all means to stop Senator Dino from returning to the Senate. INEC had also blatantly refused to consider Senator Melaye’s petitions regarding the November 16 election.”

Floyd Mayweather Jr. says he WON’T come back to Professional Boxing

Floyd Mayweather has made it clear that he is done with boxing and won't be returning to the ring for a rematch with Manny Pacquiao or for any professional fight.

Since he stopped Conor McGregor in the 10th round in 2017, Floyd Mayweather has not fought any professional fight.
There has been speculation that Floyd Mayweather could return to professional boxing two years after quitting.

He also claims to be making more money than those who fight now in the ring.

According to him, "I've got calls to get back into the ring, but my health is my wealth."Boxing is a very, very brutal sport.

In the last few years, a lot of fighters have died inside that squared circle."You have got to know when to hang it up. I had a great career. I'll still travel and do exhibitions.
I make great money doing exhibitions; between $10 and $30 million."I think I make more doing that than most fighters make fighting,'' Floyd Mayweather told Reuters. Throughout all his professional fights, Floyd Mayweather was never defeated by any opponent.

Kogi Election: Nigerians Attack Buhari For Describing Yahaya Bello’s Emergence As “Victory Well Won”

Nigerians have expressed their displeasure at President Muhammadu Buhari for describing the emergence of Yahaya Bello as winner of Saturday's  governorship election in Kogi as a “victory well won”.

Bello had won by defeating Musa Wada of the Peoples Democratic Party with 216,518 votes.

However, the election was marred with high rate of violence and electoral malpractices.

President Buhari while congratulating Bello on Monday, said the “Victory was well won” as he also commended “INEC and security agencies for discharging their responsibilities under difficult conditions”.

Angered by the comments made by President Buhari, Nigerians on the social media lambasted him for not condemning what they said “does not qualify to be called an election”.

In his reaction, ThankGod Ukachukwu lamented that the President was not showing interest in democracy and fair election.

He said, “We told y’all this man isn’t interested in a better democracy. He’s not aware of the electoral violence and irregularities, he’s not interested in the electoral act amendment to make our elections better. He’s not interested in democracy. We warned Nigerians.”

Abiola Mojeed, on his part, said that it was a shame that the people are losing confidence in the government.

He said, “Nigerians are losing confidence daily in this government. This election does not qualify to be called an election, this is a shame.”

Nnaemeka Elias in his reaction on Twitter, said, “No hate speech is worse than this, congratulating them when the so called winner won on blood of the citizens of the state.”

Michael Ajayi, another aggrieved Nigerian, said, “You're congratulating a thief sir, who stole a mandate.

“The race was not well ran and lives cannot be improved because no foundation since 1999 has been laid in Kogi State to build upon even for the last three years.”

Inibeghe Imeh said, “Your congratulatory message shows that you are really the grand master of corruption and electoral violence.

“An absolute silence on Kogi elections would have absolved you but...”

“The Lagos State Government under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has started palliatives measures on all the roads especially now that the rains have subsided.

“However, I urge him to increase more of the palliatives measures on the roads because bad roads contribute to traffic congestion.

“If we have the government tackling bad roads from that angle and we the police on the road controlling the traffic, congestion would be reduced to a minimum.

“Once traffic flows, we would have reduced crime by at least 30 per cent in the city,” Odumosu said.

He said that more men would be mobilised from all sections of the police so that there would be enough personnel to manage traffic in the state.

The commissioner also said that he had enlightened the various Divisional Police Officers (DPO) and Area Commanders on the need to change strategy towards traffic management.

“We need to change our traffic management strategy such as the time of reporting for duty and the time of closing of the traffic officers.

“The closing time of any traffic junction will be 10.00 p.m. and in areas where the traffic congestion is very serious, the time would be extended to 12 midnight,” he said.
We hope to have a traffic-free movement soon.
