Otti, Deputy not at war – CPS EMETU

In response to recent social media reports suggesting a rift between Governor Alex Otti and his Deputy, Ikechuckwu Emetu, Chukwudi Eke Mba, the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Abia State's Deputy Governor, has vehemently dismissed these claims as baseless and malicious. Eke Mba, in a press release he personally issued, revealed that these allegations, which originated from a known content creator, are entirely fabricated with the sole purpose of tarnishing the harmonious relationship between Otti and his Deputy.

Eke Mba firmly denied the allegations that he himself is a member of the PDP (Peoples Democratic Party) and clarified that he is fully committed to his role as CPS and a dedicated member of the Labour Party (LP). He expressed deep concern over the proliferation of calls and messages he received regarding this unfounded story and urged both the people of Abia State and the wider public to disregard these reports, which seem to be aimed at sowing discord, negativity, and tension, all orchestrated by the online publisher, whom he identified as a PDP member.

In his press release, Eke Mba passionately stated, "I have been inundated with calls and text messages this evening over a deliberate false attempt to cause disaffection between the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, and his loyal Deputy, Engr. Ikechukwu Lekwachi Emetu, FNSE, proclaiming 'a cold war' between them." He also emphasized that the working relationship between Governor Alex Otti and Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu remains not only cordial but highly effective for the progress and development of Abia State.

Eke Mba assured the people of Abia State that the Governor and Deputy Governor are diligently and harmoniously working together to serve the state's interests and to foster its development. He reaffirmed his commitment as a proud member of the Labour Party and refuted any association with the PDP. He also reminded the public of his unambiguous dedication to ensuring the Labour Party's success at all levels during the 2023 elections.

To provide context, it's worth noting that earlier reports had surfaced, alleging that Governor Alex Otti had instructed Deputy Governor Ikechuckwu Emetu to dismiss Chukwudi Eke Mba, the Chief Press Secretary, on grounds of supposed PDP affiliation. Additionally, these reports claimed that certain responsibilities originally delegated to the Deputy Governor had been reassigned to another key appointee of the Governor.

Chicago State University: Certificate Tinubu submitted to INEC not our document

The authenticity of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Diploma Certificate, which he claimed to have obtained from Chicago State University (CSU), continues to be a subject of controversy. Tinubu had used this certificate to secure clearance for his participation in the 2023 presidential election under the banner of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a recent development, Mr. Carl Westberg, a high-ranking official of CSU and the university's Registrar, made a significant revelation. He stated under oath that the replacement copy of the Diploma certificate submitted by Tinubu to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was not issued by the institution. Westberg testified as a subpoenaed witness in accordance with an order from Judge Nancy Maldonado. This testimony was in support of the court's directive to release Tinubu's academic records to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Atiku had challenged the APC candidate's victory in the February 25, 2023 presidential election on various grounds, including the allegation that Tinubu had submitted forged documents to INEC to qualify for the election.

To substantiate his claim, Atiku sought a court order in the United States compelling CSU to release Tinubu's academic records for verification and authentication. The U.S. court granted Atiku's request, and as part of the compliance with the court's order, Westberg testified under oath.

During his testimony, Westberg indicated that the Diploma certificate, which Tinubu claimed to have obtained from CSU and used for his electoral clearance, was not an authentic document of the university. He even noted discrepancies, such as the absence of a board of trustees at the institution in 1979, contrary to what Tinubu's certificate stated.

Moreover, when questioned about the signatures on other certificates issued in 1979 compared to the one Tinubu submitted to INEC, Westberg acknowledged variations in signature, logo, and seal. Specifically, he pointed out that the signature on the replacement certificate matched those on certificates issued in the 1990s, not the 1979 certificates as claimed by the President.

As a result of this testimony, a certified true copy of the deposition and cross-examination is expected to be provided to Atiku. This evidence is crucial in further substantiating his allegation of forgery against Tinubu.

It's worth noting that the final phase of Atiku's case, seeking the disqualification of Tinubu from the 2023 presidential election, is currently pending before the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Protest Erupts at FUTA Following Sudden Passing of 500-Level Student

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), was engulfed in sorrow and frustration as students staged a protest on Friday in response to the unexpected demise of Ayomide Akeredolu, a 500-level student of the institution. The untimely passing of Akeredolu prompted grieving students to take to the streets, blocking the bustling Akure-Ilesa highway and causing significant disruptions to vehicular movement. The resultant traffic snarl persisted for hours, a visible representation of the collective grief and demand for answers.

Akeredolu, a well-liked figure among his peers, tragically collapsed in his dormitory located in Akindeko Hall. His collapse occurred just days before his final examinations were scheduled to take place. Despite swift efforts to assist him, including rushing him to the University Health Centre, medical personnel at the facility declared him deceased. The news of Akeredolu's unexpected passing reverberated through the university campus, igniting a wave of protest as students sought to express their sorrow and raise questions about the circumstances surrounding his death.

An eyewitness to the distressing events recounted, "Around 8:30 pm, we brought him to the health centre. However, upon arrival, there was a power outage. Despite the tireless efforts of the medical team, who employed CPR, administered oxygen, and injections, the power supply remained disrupted throughout the course of treatment."

Addressing the situation, the university's Director of Corporate Communication, Adegbenro Adebanjo, issued a statement to provide clarity. He emphasized, "In response to certain perceived issues concerning services at the University Health Centre, students embarked on a protest on Friday, August 25, 2023. It is crucial to note that the protest was not a direct outcome of the student's passing."

Adegbenro Adebanjo further detailed, "During a meeting with the university's management, convened at the Vice Chancellor's request, student representatives highlighted deficiencies in the service accessibility process at the health centre. These identified gaps will be subject to continuous evaluation, ensuring that corrective measures are rigorously enforced to meet student expectations."

The protest, fueled by grief and concern, serves as a poignant reminder of the deep connection that exists within university communities. As FUTA navigates this challenging period, the commitment to enhancing student welfare and service provisions is reinforced, aiming to address grievances and foster an environment where students' well-being remains paramount.

The state is witnessing the resurgence of essential services, including piped water reaching every corner, the illumination of streets through restored streetlights, and the revitalization and equipping of healthcare facilities.

He underlined Kano State's commitment to education by revealing the state's sponsorship of registration fees for over seven thousand economically challenged students at Bayero University. This progress is mirrored in infrastructure development, with ongoing road rehabilitation and a visible reduction in refuse dumps across the state.

However, Imam Sani Hashir did not shy away from addressing the shadow of adversarial forces that loom over the administration's efforts. He expressed concern that despite the notable strides achieved in the government's first hundred days, there are elements working behind the scenes to undermine the progress and the leadership itself.

In a poignant demonstration of unity and resolve, the attendees joined in fervent prayers, seeking protection and divine guidance to uphold the integrity of their mandates and to thwart any attempt at derailing the positive trajectory they are striving to establish.

The spiritual vigilance displayed by the supporters of Kwankwasiyya serves as a testament to the deep commitment and belief in their cause. Instead, their role seems to be one of adding an intriguing dimension to the ongoing season.

This captivating development came on the heels of an eventful day in the house, as the previous occupant, Kiddwaya, found himself bidding farewell to the competition.
